The Long Walk

We’ve all walked the long walk
Down a road of pain and sorrow
Some of us don’t make it to the other side
We’ve only so many smiles to borrow

Dropping like flies
The poor, the middle class, the well to do
LGBT, PTSD, returning veterans
Depression won’t discriminate between me and you

If you think too long on the loss of life
It’ll drive you mad
“If they’d only held on a little longer”
It makes you sad

It’d be a different story
If we treated each other right
If we stared into the darkness
And helped turn on the light

Find something to live for today
Walk tall
Live your life with dignity and love
It’s all you need, after all
